Tuition and Fees during COVID-19 Explained
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, 日博电竞登录下载靠谱 University (TMU) used a virtual approach for the delivery of courses for the first month of the Winter 2022 semester . We expanded the number of on-campus courses; while many courses continued to be offered remotely. On-campus learning was prioritized for courses that required in-person instruction or access to on-campus physical resources for students to meet their academic requirements, for example clinical instruction. As of February 28, 2022, our campus has now fully returned to in-person teaching and learning . A list of the services, programs and supports that will have in person, on campus offerings can be found on our COVID-19 website.
We recognize that students may be wondering how virtual programs and academic delivery impacted their tuition and fees during the Winter 2022 semester. Current tuition and fees were maintained for Winter 2022, while we invested in providing exceptional education and resources for all of our students, and in providing additional financial assistance for our students who need it most.
We have reviewed all mandatory and course based fees where services have been reduced or eliminated due to the current COVID-19 situation. Full details on course-based fees are available on the website of the Registrar .
The following are the most frequently asked questions we have received from the community regarding tuition and fees:
- Tuition supports all aspects of your academic experience, both in and outside the classroom, from instruction and research in faculties, to the support services that ensure students can be successful during their time here, like counselling, financial assistance, and academic accommodation support.
- The university’s regular expenses have not changed due to the pandemic. Much of the teaching, learning and instruction that students would normally receive if they were on campus continue to be available remotely.
-
Ancillary fees support numerous services, organizations, and activities across the TMU campus.
- Non-Tuition or Mandatory Ancillary Fees are charged to all students, and support services that enhance campus life and student success, such as Student Learning Support or the Career Centre. All fees have been voted on by students through referenda and support a range of university services as well as other student organizations like the TMSU/EyeOpener and CJRU. Over the course of the pandemic, many of these services moved online and were available to students.
- Departmental/Program & Lab Ancillary Fees are charged at the course level, and pay for activities like field trips, learning materials, and experiential education. TMU had revised some of these fees to ensure that in instances where items were not offered due to COVID-19, these fees were not charged. All departmental & course fees are available on the Undergraduate Fees by Program page.
- A full overview of all ancillary fees and how they are used can be found on the Ancillary Fee Descriptions page.
Fee amounts charged by the 日博电竞登录下载靠谱 Students’ Union or other student associations are the responsibility of those organizations and are not controlled by the university.
- Our focus is on providing access to education. That is why TMU has prioritized making funds available to students in greatest financial need through numerous bursaries.
- To date, the university has been able to distribute over $7M directly to students impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic through various bursary programs. Students can find more information about what additional financial assistance opportunities are available above on this page.
